Identifying Emotions in Your Body
Our thoughts and emotions can be complex and sometimes confusing. By paying attention to how your body feels in different situations, you can start to recognize the physical signs of certain emotions. For example, you might notice that your heart races when you're feeling anxious, or that your stomach clenches when you're angry.
Identifying emotions in your body also can help you regulate them. Once you know what your body is feeling, you can start to develop coping mechanisms to deal with those emotions in a healthy way. For example, if you notice that you're starting to feel anxious, you might take some deep breaths or go for a walk.
This worksheet, Identifying Emotions in Your Body, can help parents and caregivers support children and teens—and themselves—in spotting and naming different emotions in their bodies.
