Building Connection: A Free COVID-19 Program for Schools

This program has ended, thank you to the thousands of educators who joined us.

Our current program for schools is the Caring Schools Network, please reach out to find out more!

As 74 million children face this next phase of their “new normal,” they risk increased social isolation, disconnection, and problem behaviors online. Our new, free program is designed to help schools respond to these needs during the global pandemic.

Substantial research indicates that children can weather many kinds of hardships if they have caring relationships with other children and adults. It’s critical for schools to take steps to assure both that children have these relationships and that they are developing their own capacities to both connect with and care for others and to create strong, inclusive communities.

Our program was designed to:

  • protect and promote children’s positive relationships, moral empathy, gratitude, and understanding of fairness and justice;

  • build strong, inclusive communities;

  • be used in both virtual and physically distant in-person school settings;

  • be low-burden and energizing instead of enervating; and

  • facilitate school-family communication and engagement.

Each month, we highlighted a new topic related to students’ social, emotional, and moral development. Resources included:

  • research-informed strategies supporting key social, emotional, and moral skills and capacities;

  • monthly training webinars for educators (both live and available on-demand on our website); and

  • survey tools for tracking student engagement.
