"We all need to do more and we all need to do better in preparing young people to be constructive community members and engaged and ethical citizens." Through the Caring Schools #CommonGood campaign, we are working with schools across the country and around the world to do just that. Here's more from Making Caring Common's Faculty Director Richard Weissbourd:
In March 2018, we launched the campaign with more than 130 schools. They have committed to take action to:
- Deepen students’ care for others and their communities;
- Increase equity and access for all students in the college admissions process; and
- Reduce excessive achievement pressure in communities where it is detrimental to students.
Since the launch—which engaged hundreds of people, generated thousands of impressions, and, perhaps most importantly, put forward the message that caring, hard work, and coordinated action can make our world a better place—our "Early Leaders" have started work on their goals and new schools are continuing to join the movement. (To see some of the campaign schools in action, check out this Facebook photo album.)
If you know a school that should join the campaign, please encourage them commit to take action today. The deadline for inclusion in our next report is August 1, 2018.
